There aren't many good long-distance trails in Europe as in the United States, but on the other hand, everything is so close together that you'll always end up somewhere if you go bushwhacking, even without a map. Just blindly follow the compass into the underbrush and you'll hit at least a service road very soon, something that would be very reckless in the United States. It's ironic, but because Europe is less wild than America it allows for more adventure in this: you don't just have to follow an arbitrary line.
