I think modern humans are so resentful because they've lost perspective. In the stone age, anyone with whom you could speak openly without violence was a friend. On media today, all kinds of ideologies compete to win us over for their side and we don't really know which side to choose to keep all our friends, so we either don't choose sides or don't speak openly, but why? What does all this matter anymore? We won't be hurt for what we say or do. Why is everyone so afraid of each other?
There are no more witch hunts or inquisitions or excommunications. We can say anything we want, except that since it makes people uncomfortable, it may eventually end up making us less socially desirable. Old habits die hard, and the cycle of blame perpetuates itself for no reason at all, even though it started from a fear of violence or starvation: these things are still ingrained in our collective consciousness that we're still trying to pick sides just in case a conflict arises again. Considering how peaceful the current is as compared to the past, that's quite cowardly. Are we really going to let such an irrational fear determine the way we live our entire lives?
