Perhaps one of the reasons testosterone increases muscle growth is that it makes us slightly self-destructive, and muscles only grow when they're damaged by microtears in "delayed-onset muscle soreness". Normally it's our instinct to withdraw from pain, but testosterone makes just the right amount of pain feel intensely satisfying. Bodybuilding is the art of balancing just on the edge of an ever so gentle self-injury, and then taking a day to recover by eating lots of lean protein.
