Everything is transitional, and that's why we can't wait for the end of any one transition before living in the moment, or we never will. There will never be a finality to change after which the present is all that is left. We like to think that there is, and we call it retirement: but at that point the worst transition of all happens, one that we choose to forget as much as we can — so that we also forget that by not acting on our actual needs in the present, we bring that future closer, bring death closer.
