No one on the flatworld knew why in the caves it was winter when it was summer up on the surface and the other way around, until they found what they thought was a fiery demon that rose and fell from and into the depths in the center. This fiery demon was really the space habitat's fusion core, which had begun to oscillate along the habitat's gravitational axis when the meteor struck.
