A Desultory System

With industrialization we switched to a hierarchical system because that was the most efficient way of communication in such large groups at the time. With the Internet, that's no longer the case and it's just as efficient for any one person to communicate with all others, which is why sharing economies are on the rise again. Hierarchy was a temporary system that we put up in a hurry, as things were going too fast to organize ourselves more thoroughly, but before that, in agrarian and foraging communities alike, we'd always been a sharing economy.
Feudalism had much less of a prominent role in our lives than capitalism does today, as the nobility made up only a tiny portion of the population and only needed a tiny portion of food production, and food was all the peasants had. For the most part, their lives were determined by weather, and when it brought about starvation, by crime. The greatest problems at the time were natural, not political, and while those natural problems were far worse than the political problems we have today, the latter are relatively new. We simply never knew how to organize ourselves in groups larger than our direct social circles.
