Nowhere Places
In modern civilization, every place is built in function of something else, and it makes us feel like we need to keep moving when we're there: houses are from where we depart to work, work is where we develop a better world — it's all constructed with somewhere else in mind. That's why people used to build temples, as a relief from them: they're not so much a place to worship gods as a place where to find reprieve from functionality — the point is and should be that they have no particular purpose at all: not to get to heaven, not to be with your community, just a little sanctuary from the hustle of daily life, a little piece of nowhere, somewhere that's outside of everyday time and space and transcends it, allowing us an escape to somewhere to be alone with ourselves and can shut out the world.
