A study found that inflammation, not telomere length, predicts longevity. Inflammation is linked to oxidative stress, which is basically the body rusting. Pretty much all healthy food - omega-3, vitamins, minerals, phenols, are anti-inflammatory, so the inflammation being a predictor could just be caused by a better diet as a confounding factor. I think they're going too far when they say telomere length doesn't predict longevity — but telomere length is just one of many factors determining how well the body deals with oxidative stress, and since inflammation is more closely linked to oxidative stress, it's a more reliable predictor.
